Happy New Year, volunteers!

2018 has come upon us so quickly.  Before we plunge into a new chapter let's take the time to reflect on some of the amazing things that we have accomplished in 2017.

Volunteers logged an amazing 48,103 hours.  This includes off-site pet adoption events, animal care support, behavior and enrichment support and communication and events support.  Because of your efforts, 7,788 animals were adopted.  That's 100 more adoptions from 2016!

The Hawaiian Humane Society is so fortunate to have volunteers with the dedicated and passionate commitment to advancing our mission every day.  Thank you again for all that you do to help improve the lives of the people and the animals!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Jan Youth and Nani

On December 29, 2016 Jan Youth adopted Beauty (now named Nani) from the Hawaiian Humane Society. This day went down in history as the day the Hawaiian Humane Society cleared the shelter of all adopted animals.  Over a year later, Jan and Nani now are joy ambassadors in our Pet Visitation Program at the Queen’s Medical Center- West Oahu. “I enjoy the smiles we can bring to people in often challenging times,” says Jan about the Pet Visitation Program.  When they aren't volunteering, Jan and Nani love to nap and take walks.  Happy one year anniversary, Jan and Nani and thank you for volunteering!

WISHLIST

The new year means that we could use new supplies! The shelter is looking for donations of small animal clips on our feeders, small animal chews, turtle tanks, turtle tank water filters (and sponge parts for the filter), snack-sized Ziploc bags and cat tactile brushes. Donations can be dropped off at the old Admissions Center or ordered through our Amazon wishlist using AmazonSmile.

The Hawaiian Humane Society is an education and advocacy organization that shelters, protects, rescues, reunites and rehomes animals. It is Oahu's only open-admission shelter that welcomes all animals. Established in 1883, this non-profit organization is not a chapter of any group as there is no national humane society. Gifts made directly to this independent, local organization help local animals and people. Visit HawaiianHumane.org to learn more.
