In partnership with the Institute of Humane Services, the Hawaiian Humane Society routinely provides free pet wellness checks for residents of Hale Mauliola Navigation Center - a pet-friendly transitional housing project. On August 15,  Dr. Carolyn Naun and veterinary technician Brittany Macomber assisted six pet owners by providing exams for eight dogs. The dogs were given microchips, vaccinations and flea and heartworm treatment.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Rosemarie Grigg, Pet Loss Support Group Volunteer

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy.  The Hawaiian Humane Society provides a Pet Loss Support Group monthly to help pet owners with the painful process of grieving.  Rosemarie Grigg has facilitated every Pet Loss Support Group since December 1999.  During each monthly session, Rosemarie and pet owners celebrate the life of their pets, by sharing memories and grieving together.  Rosemarie has been instrumental in providing a safe space for people who are suffering the loss of the important human-animal bond.  The Pet Loss Support Group meets every first Tuesday of the month, at the Hawaiian Humane Society.

The Hawaiian Humane Society is an education and advocacy organization that shelters, protects, rescues, reunites and rehomes animals. It is Oahu's only open-admission shelter that welcomes all animals. Established in 1883, this non-profit organization is not a chapter of any group as there is no national humane society. Gifts made directly to this independent, local organization help local animals and people. Visit HawaiianHumane.org to learn more.
